Devlog September 2026
01. October 2026

Finally I was able to release v0.9.0 with player injuries and red cards system! While this was supposed to be v0.8.6, I simply changed so much that it was worth to be named v0.9.0. The red card system was the most intensive implementation I did since a long time.
Here the full changelog and some more information of the two version released in September
v1.0 coming in December 2026 for 15€
I want to start right away with the "bad news". The original release month for v1.0 was November. But because my November will be very intense, I preferred to delay v1.0 release to December. My talk proposals got accepted at this years GodotFest in Munich and SFSCON in Bolzano. Therefore I have to prepare two talks and a workshop and that takes time. Another reason is the release of FM27 and GTA6 that month. I don't want to rush the release and December simply feels the better choice.
I also decided to change the price from 10€ to 15€, with an 30% release discount for 14 day. During the Early Access year I learned a lot about how Steam works. It seems that discounted games get much more visibility. With a bigger base price, I can discount the game more while getting what I initially wanted. Therefore the price will increase in all regions for 30% at release date. The exact release date is still not defined, but I will probably announce it with the next devlog.
If you feel this is the wrong choice, please let me know! I'm happy to change my mind about this, but currently I feel this is the right price for this game.
Now to the good news and updates ;-)
Red card rules
Red cards in futsal are quite special. While the player will be suspended for the upcoming match, several other rules exist. During the match, the team has to play with one player less for two minutes. After the penalty time is over, another player can replace the suspended player. That can happen also earlier, if a team with more players scores a goal. But only if the team really has more players. If both teams got red cards and currently play 4vs4 nothing happens.
As you can imagine, implementing this rules was not so easy. I had to change several parts of the game including the match engine. As a side effect, the player change system has also been improved. Now players go first to the sideline and wait for the field player to exit. Additionally it is no longer needed to wait for the ball to leave the field. Changes can happen now also when the clock is still running, just like in real futsal.
The second part that needed lots of changes was the formation selection view. Previously it wasn't possible to leave players at home for a match. Now with suspended and injured players, it is required to choose who will join the match.
The red card system is still very simple. A red card leads to one day suspension for the next match of that competition type. Two yellow cards lead to a red card, but they do not accumulate over matches. I future this will be improved and become more realistic.
Plans for October
I already started to work on manager targets this week, so that will be the next feature released. Manager targets are defined by the club management board and can be slightly negotiated. They define things like league table placement, cup performance and financial goals. Some with more priority than others and all targets will influence your performance vote. If an important target is missed, a warning will appear in you inbox. After several warnings, the management board might decide to search another manager and fire you!
This feature should make the game more realistic, but also a bit more difficult. Currently you can do whatever you want and nothing happens...
The other main feature still missing for v1.0 is player training. If everything works out as planned, that feature should come already in October. Then it will be possible to define what attributes players will train during the week. It will also bring more frequent player attributes updates. Currently they get updated only once at the start of every season, quite randomly. With player training, this will happen more frequently and during the season. It will also be less random and based on the data from training and match performance. It should also be visually easier to see, what attributes changed in the player profile. I plan to add some small arrows near the changed attributes. In best case I will even show the full historical progress, but that probably will come after v1.0.
More planned features
As mentioned already in previous devlogs, the development won't stop with v1.0. I will continue working on the game and start to work also on other sport editions. The next sport will be announced very soon!
Some of the highly requested but still missing features are
- National teams
- Data pack editor features
- More complex competitions structures
- Player faces
- Stadium customization
- Match engine features
- Dribbling
- Power plays
- Timeouts
- Ball altitude, to allow crosses and headers
- More tactics
- Watch matches of other teams
- ..and many more!
You can find a more complete list of pending features on the roadmap. My private todo list is currently 1865 lines long (some empty lines included!). So there's still lots to do in 2027 for me :-)
Every feedback is welcome
